Sample Space of An Experiment

The sample space is all possible result in an experiment, which can be written with S notation and each member of S is called a sample point.

1. Determining Lots of Possible Events from Various Situations

Suppose I will take a dice, then the sides of a dice will show the number of points there are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. So the sample space of the dice is {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}. If the dice is thrown up once then the probability of possible numbers is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. I can not say that the number 5 should appear or the number 3 does not appear.

So the probability of the emergence of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 in an event is the same. For example, there is an experiment to throw up a dice once. If A is the incidence of primes, so A is 2, 3, and 5 and if B the number event is greater than 5 then B is 6.

2. Write the Set of Events from an Experiment

To write down the events of an experiment is known by the set. For example in throwing a currency once, so sample space S = {N, I}. N is the side of the number and I is the side of the image.

Example:
In an experiment to throw a dice once, A is the occurrence of the prime number and B is the occurrence of a number greater than 3, Ac and Bc respectively are the complement of A and B. Let A, B, Ac, and Bc be in the set!

Answer
S = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}
A = {2, 3, 5}
Ac = {1, 4, 6}
Bc = {1, 2, 3}
So in essence the set of events is part of the sample space.
